THAILAND!! What an incredible country. This was the first month that we were in our new teams. This is team Brave Hearts. Made up of these strong confident ladies, Shavon, Jessica, Wanzie, Taryn and Rosa. Thailand was an exciting month for us all as we spent time encouraging one another and seeing the value of having a team that loves their close community. As a team we travelled from Malaysia to Thailand which took about 24hrs including an uber ride, ferry, train, failed attempted at mini bus, train, pit stop at KFC (obviously), Tuk Tuk and bus ride to our destination Phuket. From there we spent time in Kata area, then Patong, Phi Phi Island, Bangkok and finally Pattaya.
FREEDOM!!
I’m still trying to get over the fact that my time in Thailand is over! What a crazy month full of adventure and wonderful stories. This month I got the opportunity to do Bar ministry in one of the Red-Light districts of Phuket. This kind of ministry challenged me in every way. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything quite like it. The one street was filled with bars, clubs, poles, loud music and a whole lot prostitution. It was the nosiest street I’ve ever been on and with every step you where meet by someone new trying to sell you something. As a team we spent one of the nights holding signs saying Free Prayer,We will Listen, Your Story Matters. I have to say it was probably one of the best nights I have had. First of all, seeing my team mate’s excitement to really listen to others and love on them and secondly the amazing people and the stories they would share with me. One simple sign led to wonderful connections.
Reflecting back on the month I realise that it was made up by simple acts. The simple phrase “you are beautiful and you are loved” has so much meaning and power. It reminded me of my time in Ethiopia in the red-light district in Addis Ababa. A wave hello, a friendly smile, standing quietly listening to their story. These simple acts are powerful and will impact someone’s life.
So today I want you to know that you are loved and your story does matter! 🙂
