India has been another crazy month. I have experienced busy cities, delicious cakes, the best curries, monsoon season, hopelessness, desperation, freedom, faith, exploitation, stories of hope, love. And one thing that I will never forget, family.
I love my family back home and whilst entering India it became a reality that I have now been travelling for 7 full months! That’s 7 months without seeing my family or friends, without annoying my little brother daily, not having my own bed, living in 24/7 community, no set schedule, adapting every month to a new country and culture. Life on the race isn’t always fun and exciting, it challenges you in every way. But the funny thing is I couldn’t imagine not living a life without these challenges. What makes it so much more is the people you encounter along the way when you choose to live a life with no set schedule. When you make the decision to just GO!
In going comes the harsh reality of leaving everything behind and the hardest one is family. This month I have been called Auntie from the most beautiful group of kids in Kolkata. This reminded me of my amazing nieces and nephew back home. I spent time living with an Indian family where the two young girls called me DD which means sister. This reminded me of how blessed I am to have two crazy big sisters. The Pastor was a professional at the dad jokes, sweet nanny made the best food and beautiful Rosy, I don’t even have the words to describe what this lady means to me.
If I was to sum this month up in one word I would say Family. I experienced living and being part of a wonderful family and a sweet reminder of how thankful I am for my family back home.
