Prayer walks around a temple? Nope. Bar ministry? Not that one either.  Sex trafficking victims? Wrong. How about pig slaughtering or paint ball fighting? While that would be scary, that is not what I am referring to here either.
The most horrifying ministry on the race has been sharing Jesus.
This past month in Nepal, we have been working with a Pastor in Dandabazar, a small mountain village surrounded by steep, rocky hikes and people that want to hear of the Gospel. God has taken me to fully understand the passage in 1 Peter 3:15 where it says to “always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you…”. At first, it really convicted me that it was so difficult to hike a few hours to someone’s house and share the Gospel with them right there on the spot.
Why was this so hard? Isn’t this why I came on the race?
The answer: I felt unequipped and unprepared to share such big news. I mean who am I that God would use me? Then, I was reminded of countless stories in the Bible of broken people that God uses. God has been taking me through Moses’ life recently and showing me that I do have a voice, and I am empowered by His Spirit that dwells within me to preach the Good News. I can now say what a privilege and honor it is that He would use me to share the wonderful news of Jesus and the hope we can have by placing our life in His hands!
I needed to be reminded that the news I have to share is worth a 3 hour hike if that is what it takes.
I believe I felt convicted because this type of ministry is what I can and should be doing when I get home. I should be going to visit the houses of those that are sick and elderly who can’t attend weekly congregation to encourage them, build relationships with them and pray over them for healing. I also should be going to visit and build relationships with unbelievers who may have questions or simply need someone that meets them where they are to share the love of a Savior who came to save, redeem and heal their brokenness.
Is the news you have worth sharing today?
Isaiah 61:1-2 states, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn…”
