I want to share with you all about how God has been transforming my heart to be more like His heart over the past week but first, I would like to give some details on what my life looks like here in Quiche, Guatemala.

We flew into the Guatemala City airport and after safely making it through customs, we took a 4.5 hour bus ride to Quiche where we were greeted by Erv and Sally York who run the Agape in Action ministries – go check out their Facebook page called “Agape in Action” (the one out of Quiche, Guatemala) and their website at www.agapeinaction.org. They are such a strong couple filled with the joy of the Lord and an encouragement and blessing to all who meet them. Later, we learned that my team, Eshet Chayil (Hebrew for “woman of valor”), would be working at a daycare/after school program this month with babies all the way up to 12 year olds. We have done everything from changing dirty diapers, disinfecting the cafeteria, helping with homework to purchasing and installing their first pieces of playground equipment (and oh, I wish you could have seen the looks on their sweet faces when they saw us carrying it in!). I have also been using my broken Spanish to communicate with the children but thankful for their daily patience and grace.

Now I would like to dig in to how God is working in my life. This past week, we had a session where a squad mentors challenged us to open up to one another and confess secrets that we had been harboring inside as well as the dirty, ugly sins that we thought we might just take to the grave with us. After one person shared, someone else would go over and pray for the person who just shared. Well, to be completely honest, the thought of us doing this made me sick, but once it began, it was a beautiful thing and the kind of thing that bonds people together in ways nothing else can and coincidentally from the beginning, my prayer for this squad has been an unshakable unity.

And did you know that God actually commands for us to do this? Check out James 5:1: “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

I have been reading through the book of John recently and God has been teaching me to be sensitive to the moving of the Spirit in my life so my challenge for you today is to consider what the Spirit may be leading you to do. Remember, that God calls us to big things – things that are out of our comfort zone and can only be done by trusting in our Father. It may be confessing that past or present sin or even forgiving that person – whatever that is for you, know there is freedom on the other side and God has called us to a life of freedom because of what Christ did for us on the cross.

Galatians 5:13 says, “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature, rather, serve one another in love.” Therefore, live the abundant life today (John 10:10) and find your true freedom in Christ alone.
