Well, these three phrases basically sum up my month in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I had the privilege to serve alongside three different teams and work with their different ministries while shadowing under the squad leaders.

The organization I served with for the month was called Lighthouse in Action. It has three main ministries: Zion Cafe (coffee shop and restaurant that has live Christian worship nightly), LOVE ACTS (love on prostitutes and ladyboys in the red light district), and X Life (sharing the good news of Jesus in the slums).

Some of my favorite moments from this month include sharing the Gospel with a Buddhist monk who had never heard of Christianity before. He had several questions about this Jesus who forgives, loves and saves! Added bonus: We are now Facebook official. That’s right, I am Facebook friends with a monk!

Another great memory is when I went out to the red light district to love on those caught in a life of prostitution. As soon as my two friends and I sat down, we were greeted by a  ladyboy with a warm kindness. I was surrounded by some of the most loving and gentle people I have ever met – never did I feel judged or unwanted. All I saw was what Jesus wanted them to experience – His warmth, His gentleness, His acceptance, and ultimately, His love. I pray they come to an intimate relationship and knowledge of Jesus as their Redeemer and Friend.
