I just wanted to share 11 glimpses into my life here in Tegucigalpa, Honduras – enjoy!
- I have slept in a tent for the past 2 months.
- I daily struggle whether or not it is worth it to take a nice, freezing cold shower.
- If it is my laundry day, then I hand wash my clothes with a brush and some powdered laundry detergent and then hang them up to dry while praying it does not rain while they are hanging.
- When it is time to go to the bathroom, I have to remember not to flush the toilet paper because the sewer systems cannot handle it (we all learned this lesson fast!).
- My ministry day starts off with teaching English at a nearby school in the mornings and I daily prepare a lesson plan for my students. In the afternoons, my team has done house visits in the local community just getting to know people and then praying for them.
- I have become close friends with a girl that lives here named Karen. She is deaf and mute and likely in her mid-twenties (we are not sure because she is just now learning to communicate). She has recently started taking sign language classes and is beginning to share more from her past with the girls she lives with. She has the best stories and tells the funniest jokes that she shares through charades. I have fallen in love with her and I already know its going to be one of the hardest goodbyes I will have over the next 10 months.
- This past Sunday, I attended the church, CCI, which is a church filled with North American missionaries who are serving here in Tegucigalpa and it was absolutely amazing and a much needed time of refreshment!
- I eat rice and beans everyday for lunch and surprisingly, I haven’t grown tired of it!
- I just started reading the book “30 Days of Prayer with John Wesley” written by John Wesley to really strengthen my prayer life and to grow intimately with the Lord in that area of my spiritual walk.
- I have made it a personal goal to memorize a verse a week and I wanted to share the verse with you each week and at the same time, challenge you to do this with me. Here is this week’s verse: Psalm 103:8 – “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love.”
- There are Burger Kings, McDonalds, KFC’s, Church’s Chicken and many other American fast food chains here in Tegucigalpa. I even passed a Sherwin Williams Paints the other day! Currently, I am sitting in a Burger King typing this so I can post it with the free wi-fi here.
