Ten ways God is rocking the World Race:
Organization aspects:
1. Unity:
- The World Race is a mission trip put on through the organization Adventures In Missions. This is an interdenominational Christian ministry that provides opportunities for individuals and groups to serve on mission trips in America and abroad.
- Love the interdenominational aspect = unity in Christ!
2. Frugality:
- The entire trip is a reasonable $15,500 for eleven months including flights, ground transportation, and room and board.
- I really appreciate this after choosing to pass up many two week medical mission trips that didn’t seem like the best use of funds for me. It is different work but with this trip I’ll get to serve 11 months instead of about 2.5 months.
3. Spirit Led:
- The leadership uniquely relies on God, and is flexible to His leading. They lead by example.
- Need I say more? I mean, this is awesome!
Trip aspects:
4. Community:
- There are four squads that will be sent out in January on four different routes. I am in squad B; we are all on the same route of countries. Within squad B I will be in of a group of about six individuals for the entire trip.
- Christian community!
5. Adventure:
- We will carry everything we need for the year in a backpack.
- For those of you who don’t know my love of backpacking, this makes me happy.
6. Submersion:
- We will be staying with local people and sharing life with them.
- What an awesome opportunity for deep exposure to a new culture.
7. Diversity:
- This specific route touches at least five very distinctive lands, cultures, languages, peoples, religions, diets. 🙂 (That smirk designates my expectation that eating rice and beans three meals a day may encourage weight loss)
- It is so exciting to think I’ll get to learn about God in so many new ways as I’m exposed to different ideas.
Ministry aspects:
8. Support:
- Adventures In Missions is connected to local ministries and local Christians in each country. We will have the privilege of serving them in whatever capacity needed.
- Rather than going out to share the gospel and then (at the end of the month) leaving people without a support system, we will be aiding systems that are already in place.
- We will be put to work!
- We will also get to see how God is already working.
9. Encouragement:
- Specifically we will have the joy of bringing encouragement to many isolated brothers and sisters in Christ.
- This hits a really soft spot in my heart since those seeking to follow God wholeheartedly often feel isolated and inundated by lies even here in community in America. I cannot imagine how tough it would be to deal with spiritual warfare without community.
10. Justice & Mercy:
- In addition to encouraging local believers, we will primarily work with ministries to orphans, widows, and victims of human trafficking.
- Again, I am deeply passionate about fighting injustice with the light of the Gospel. If you are interested, keep an eye out for a future post about how God worked this fury in me.
I am in awe that God placed me on this trip. In awe and a little giddy; I've been so eager to share the news with you. :] If any of you would like to commit to pray for me, please let me know. Thank you for reading and please subscribe to my blog!
Next blog, get ready to pray!
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. Isaiah 61:1
