Well! I sure took my sweet time with this first post but here it is:

I used to think that missionaries were stupid.  I just didn’t understand why someone would want to give up all the comforts and safety of home and the company of family and friends to travel to a faraway place where nothing was familiar.  This view was due to a misconception and poor understanding of who God is and what He did for me.  Then I went to Haiti when I was 16, and God shattered everything that I thought I knew.  He showed me that He is not just the main character of a best-selling book; He is a sovereign God who is very much alive and who is violently pursuing my heart.  This realization changed my life.  Until then, God had been represented to me as another subject to be studied in school and a platform for judging people.  But the moment I realized God was alive, I knew I had to do something about it.

On the same trip I heard about this thing called the World Race.  What is that?  An exciting title with an even more exciting concept: pack a backpack and leave home for 11 months to travel to 11 different countries and preach the gospel through acts of service and love.  I was only 16 when I heard about the World Race, but I started dreaming about it from that time on.

Flash forward four years to my new home in Iowa.  I am only a few months away from my 21st birthday and will finally be eligible to go on the Race.  The Lord walked me through the application process, and in my acceptance, I see His calling.  It’s an extremely exciting time in my life, and I am so happy to finally be writing this blog and letting everyone join me in the preparation process.

I am going on the January 2015 route 5.  My teammates and I will be referred to as Q Squad.  The countries that my team and I will be visiting are: India, Nepal, Thailand, South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Latvia, Estonia, Burma, Cambodia, and Vietnam.  With the exception of Thailand, I will be experiencing all of these countries and cultures for the first time.  I’m blessed beyond measure to have been given this opportunity, and I intend to make the very most of it!

I will be updating this blog periodically as I prepare to go and will update it every chance I get once I launch.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.  I’m so looking forward to taking this next step.  I greatly appreciate any support and prayers you have for me!
