So, if you’re a Once Upon a Time fan, you know that this is from the newest episode!

(OUAT is my FAVORITE show by the way!)

But anyways, out of all of the seasons, I think this curse was so profound and so true.

For all of you that are totally lost and have no idea what I’m talking about, let me explain.

The antagonist of this story arch cast a spell called, “The curse of Shattered Sight.” What this curse does is makes everyone under it’s spell, see only the worst in others. To remember every mistake their friends and loved ones made. To be their most evil form. To let every negative emotion or feeling they have forgotten, reappear.

It caused the most beloved characters turn spiteful and evil and it shocked you to hear some of the hurtful things they said to the ones they loved. Friends were fighting to kill either with their fists or their words. It was really heart breaking.

Here’s a video clip from the actual episode to give you a picture of what it did to some of the most lovable characters on the show:
Curse of Shattered Sight

And you know, the curse itself may be fictional, in the sense no one casts a spell over a whole town and glass falls over everyone and curses everyone to be evil and see the worst in everyone.

However.

The devil definitely knows how to cast that curse on us in different ways.

Let’s say, your dad abandoned you when you were a baby and left you with your mom. He didn’t try to contact you or your mom till you were about eight years old. You felt awkward at the sight of your dad, but a sense of relief that your daddy finally decided to reach out to you. He apologizes with all of his heart, and not only promises to make it up to you and be a part of your life, but he actually does it. You build a wonderful relationship with Him. Then, one night you have a recital of some sort, like dance or piano. Your dad promises to make it because He knows how important it is to you. You walk on that stage expecting to see your dad in the audience with a big goofy grin on his face…but you look to no avail…he’s a no show. You go to perform, but your heart isn’t in what you’re doing. You keep wondering where your dad is and why he broke that promise. He knew how important it was to you. After the show, your dad comes rushing to pick you up. You look at him with anger, and that one mistake brings up those first eight years of your life that your dad wasn’t there. Then, the questions pound in your head, “What if he’s going to start breaking his promises now? What if he’s going to be like how he was before and forget about me? What if he’s just been pretending all this time?”
And then….the devil begins answering the questions for you.
“He probably doesn’t even mean what he says. He finally got done acting like a good father. He never really cared…he just started being there out of obligation.”
And then…every special moment with your father, every tear-felt conversation, every apology he has ever said…means nothing. All you can see is his mistakes.

Even the apology he is trying to make to you now, about how he got caught up in work, lost track of time, how it’s no excuse….it means nothing. He broke a promise. He was a bad dad. He didn’t care.

The curse of shattered sight begins.

That is just one little example of that. There are much worse cases…like in marriages when you overlook one million things that your significant other does, and then….they just do something horrible. And then, you remember every little to medium mistake they made. You forget the Godly person they are, who they could be…and you just see the evil.

The curse of shattered sight takes hold!

If the devil can divide us by making us see each other’s flaws, remembering everyone’s past failures, our own past failures, to see the world in selfish, hateful eyes….he’s won. The curse has taken over our minds.

I know there have been many times I have fallen under that curse. I put my self on a pedestal and looked down on everyone who had done me wrong in some sort of way. I tried to become their God and make them feel miserable for hurting me. Which is so very wrong.

If I expected Jesus to forgive me…..AND forget my horrible sins….how could I treat others how I didn’t want to be treated? How could I hold their wrongdoings against them….how could I always keep that memory has hostage so I could look down on them? Especially if they changed and are sorry.
They weren’t the ones in the wrong, I was.

But thank you Jesus, literally, there is a cure. And well, that’s Jesus! He can take the veil off your eyes and have you see others how He sees them! Jesus loved us when we were unlovable because He saw who we COULD be! He has CRYSTAL CLEAR sight! He helps us see the good in others that can be brought out instead of just seeing the evil. He helps us forgive when we don’t have it in us to forgive and helps us love when it hurts to. Jesus restores relationships! Jesus is more powerful than any curse the devil can cast! He DEFEATED him!

Jesus has given me better sight by showing me others in His eyes, and it breaks my heart how I was to some people. I still make mistakes, but every day my goal is to see others like He does and love like He does. It would be hypocritical to do otherwise.

So, if you are suffering from the curse of shattered sight, please ask Jesus to help you see others how He sees them. How to forgive your family members, your friends…even your biggest enemy. You will see so much better. Instead of looking through eyes of hate, you’ll be looking through eyes of love!

Love you guys!

Sincerely,
Meraia

Colossians 3:12-14 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
