Two weeks ago I earned the award for worst teacher, our students had asked the week prior if we could have a picnic on Tuesday in the rice fields and I said yes! But when the next Tuesday came around I had forgotten…(insert panic emoji) the kids showed up with a few candy bars and a bottle of soda, and their teacher showed up empty handed…oops. Thankfully the students didn’t mind and we still went and had our picnic!! With the next week being our last week there, Megan and I decided we would take them on another picnic and we would bring the goodies this time and also decided we would bring some for our second class as well!
So the day before our planned picnic we asked our host to order one loaf of banana bread for us that morning and we would pick it up after ministry. And so we went after ministry to pick it up and realized that it wasn’t going to be enough to feed both classes so we were just going to have to give it to the ones that we were going on a picnic with. (The other class isn’t old enough to go to the rice fields yet) But the next morning at breakfast Darcy (my host sister) said “hey did anyone tell you about the deal with the bread?” And I was like “oh yeah we went and picked it up, thanks for ordering it” And she said “wait what? when we went to put in the order yesterday they already had some fresh so we went ahed and got it”!!! so we ended up with the two loaves we needed to feed all of our kids!!
A few months ago I would have thought it was just luck, but when it happened I knew it was a blessing!! (Thanks Jesus) One slice of banana bread and a cup of soda may seem silly but to us it meant knowing these kids had at least something more than candy to fuel their little bodies for a few hours.
To put into perspective how much this actually meant, The tuition at their school is $2 a month, and only half of the kids families are able to pay that. So at $3 it was easy for us to pay for a large loaf (15 slices) but for many of them that’s just too high of a price to pay even for semi sufficient food. Jesus multiplied!
