To be honest, there have been moments of doubt these past few months concerning my decision to go on the World Race. I’ve asked myself multiple times, “Am I qualified?” “Can I leave everything that’s familiar behind?” “Can I let go of the past for something different?” I wish I could answer these questions with a resounding yes! But I would be lying if I said it hasn’t been a struggle letting go and trusting God for the unknown.

Perhaps, like me, you’re in an “in-between” season of life as well. Maybe you are not leaving to serve overseas, but you’re facing a decision in your relationships, with you job, or with the church you attend. It’s difficult, isn’t it? Serving the Lord faithfully in the “in-between.”

C.H. Spurgeon, in Spurgeon on God, tells us that everything that we are and everything we do is already accomplished through the work of Christ.

He states, “And if we are delivered and made alive in Christ, preservation is still of the Lord alone. If I am prayerful, God makes me prayerful. If I have graces, God gives graces. If I have fruit, God gives me fruit. If I hold on in a consistent life, God holds me on in a consistent life. I do nothing whatever towards my own preservation, except what God himself first does in me.”

Remember, the Lord might be calling each of us into something new – something beneficial for the kingdom. Let us not mourn the past or be fearful of the future. Let us live now – ever mindful that Christ is working through the messy, difficult, and stressful seasons of our lives to accomplish His will. Who knows? Maybe the change we are fighting is exactly what we need to draw closer to the Lord and to bless those around us.

So here’s to the “in-betweens” of life. May the Lord find us faithful!
