Today is our last day in Peru. As hard as it is to believe, month two of my World Race is over, and we’re headed to Bolivia tonight. About that…

Starting at 9 or 10 PM this evening, my squad will be getting on a double decker bus, which will be our home for the next 40+ hours. Today is Saturday, and we won’t arrive in La Paz, Bolivia until sometime Monday evening. We’ll get to enjoy our last night together as a squad on Monday, and then Tuesday each team will be sent to a different location for the month.

One lucky team is actually spending the month in Santiago, Chile instead of Bolivia, which means they’re also breaking the World Race record for longest bus ride. Those of you who remember 7th grade geography will recall that Chile stretches super far from north to south.

My team is headed to Mapiri, Bolivia. We were looking at a map of South America yesterday to try to figure out who was going where. We have people who will be 16,000 feet up in the Andes mountains (pray against elevation sickness, please), the aforementioned team going to Santiago, some people who will be relatively close to La Paz, etc. Try as we might, though, we couldn’t find Mapiri anywhere.

My team is literally going off the map for the month of March. We have pretty much no idea what we’re getting into, though we figure we’ll be roughly in the middle of nowhere. I tried Googling to see what I could find out, and here’s the entire Wikipedia entry for Mapiri:

Mapiri is a town in the La Paz Department, Bolivia.

That’s not a lot to go on. I’m excited, though, for the adventure of finding out what’s there!
