Hello my lovely & faithful readers! I know it’s been a while, and I apologize for the hiatus. I am going to work on updating this more often- for now I just want to give a small update on what God’s been revealing to me in my day-to-day routine.
Fun fact about me: I am the kind of person who once I find a song I really like I’ll have it on repeat either for an entire week, until I get tired of it, or just move onto a new song.
The past four weeks I’ve been going through songs from Ryan Ellis’ worship album and last week my song of the week was “Oh Lord You’re Good”. I was on my way to ministry last Tuesday morning, feeling kind of anxious while trying to get myself pumped for the day when this song came on. It’s funny because right before it played, I was listening to “Everything’s Alright”. It was like God was reminding me that even during the times when I have to remind myself that I’m going to be okay, He is STILL good. His character doesn’t change and His word doesn’t change- that’s good news guys!!!! *look up Psalm 145:9*
This song became my anthem for the week. I had a feeling there was more for me to get from it besides the obvious, that God is good. Since it’s past midpoint of the race I’ve been thinking A LOT about my future and what the fall will look like for me, and honestly it kinda scared me at first because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. But, one night I was walking around the field listening to this song and felt such peace about the unknown knowing that as long as I’m seeking God with my whole heart then there is no where I can go where He won’t be. So no, I still don’t know what I’m doing this fall, but that doesn’t mean I won’t know tomorrow or a week from now and it doesn’t negate the fact that the Lord’s plans for me are good. *look up Jeremiah 29:11*
He doesn’t only have good plans for me, but for others too (this includes you!). I was reminded of this last Thursday during our activation teaching.
On Thursdays we go out in our teams and visit families in the villages we go to for ministry and pray for them. We pray for healing often and at the time it seemed like we were hitting a wall because we would pray for healing and not see it happen right away. During the teaching last week one of the leaders at the base in Guatemala said a fault in some of our prayers is that while we pray we say to God, “if it’s in your will to heal this person…” Dang it, guilty. He brought up a good point- why wouldn’t God want to heal someone?? It’s not in His character to have the desire to watch someone suffer. This doesn’t mean that people are exempt from suffering- because of sin we live in a fallen world and there is sickness and evil, but thankfully Jesus already paid the price for it, so we can go to God and pray for miracles and ask for His help.
That day, when we went out to pray I had a different perspective – God is good regardless of whether or not I see the healing happen before me. I stopped saying “if” and started declaring what I knew to be true about the Lord. I stood on the truth that God is good and faithful. One of the lyrics in “Oh Lord You’re Good” that I kept repeating as we prayed was “you always do what you say you’re gonna do. you are good and faithful”. Just because I don’t see a person get healed in front of my eyes at the exact moment we pray doesn’t mean that God isn’t going to heal them!! It’s always done in HIS timing, not mine. When I went into prayer with this different heart posture, the Lord moved.
To sum it up, God is good:
-
despite our emotions
-
in the unknown
-
whether we are present to see the healing or not
-
in circumstances that are out of our control.
Amongst it all, He is good.
Thanks for reading 🙂 Have a wonderful week!
All my love,
Melissa
