In the past if you had asked me about spiritual warfare, I probably wouldn’t think much of it. After working in the field for the past 6 months, I can say that I am a believer of spiritual warfare. This month in Malawi, we are living in a Muslim community trying to survive in a place where we are unwanted by villagers. We consist of two teams in Senga Bay, and today we spent the day prayer walking around the compound. Some teammates have been afflicted with nightmares, several have been getting sick, and last night we found a stranger trying to break into one of our rooms. Before our prayer walk, our contact said that the devil will attack in any way that he can. For some that may mean sickness, and for others it may be fear through dreams. He also noted that those usually afflicted are because they have a weakness of some kind that the devil can use. The idea of one being spiritually weak puzzled me.

Throughout the race I have heard about the spiritual battle in places, and have seen people get sick every month or be inflicted with re occurring nightmares. I personally have been blessed with good health, and have not had a single nightmare thanks to the Lord. But today it got me thinking about the Body of Christ. If we are all equal and children of God, then why is it that some people are strong, and others weak, when regarding spiritual warfare?

When puzzled I have learned that it’s best to ask the Lord first, and today he taught me how important the Body is. We Christians are suppose to live in this world, but not be of this world. Well how do we get through this? That’s where the Body comes in. I have been blessed with the most remarkable family. I don’t deserve the blessings that I have received, but I can acknowledge the blessings that I have been given; I was raised in a strong Christian family, and they are my strength to this day. Back home in California, my family and I have been members of a specific church for over 12 years, and this church understands the importance of the Word and Community. Here I was thinking the Lord has merely blessed me with goodness, without acknowledging that I am blessed because of the family I have battling for me back home. I have been blessed on the field due to the many family members back home praying for me.

It was prideful of me to think that I was simply fortunate to be blessed for these things, but it is humbling and gratifying to know that I am blessed with health, strength, and peace, because my family is praying on my behalf. Thanks be to the Lord for he answers prayers!

“Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

We are here to be a family who lift each other up, exhort, and pray on their behalf. I was one of those people who took the “assembling of ourselves” for granted. Thank you family for not forsaking this verse, and for obeying the Lord’s word. Thank you for caring, loving, supporting, and Praying on my behalf. It’s a praise, because I have been blessed with such an amazing family. The Lord is Good! THANK YOU!!!

(Oh and please continue to pray for me, and my teammates)
