Who am I?…lets see, good question!
My name is Melissa Milroy and I am 23 years old. I am currently living in Gainesville, Florida where I work at a rehab hospital as an occupational therapist. Just a little background…I was born in the DC area and moved to Florida when I was about 4yrs old and have lived here ever since! I grew up in St Petersburg, Florida with my parents and older sister. I went to undergrad and graduate school at the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and remained here for work after 🙂
I have a wonderful family and amazing friends! I have truly been so blessed with all of them and I couldn’t be more thankful for the people the Lord has surrounded me with 🙂 My wonderful older sister, Emily, actually went on the World Race July 2010 (P squad) as well as 2 of my best friends after that. It has been a joy to walk through the journey with each of them, and now I am super excited to have a journey all my own!
Fun facts: I love to laugh and be silly, I love to travel but that farthest I have been outside the US is Central America, I played softball and soccer for many years growing up but enjoy playing most sports, I am very laid back but I can get pretty competitive in a game situation, I love board games/game nights, I’ve been skydiving (not sure I would go again though), I love to go snowboarding and scuba diving, I love to be crafty, make things and scrapbook, my “love language” is quality time
About a year ago when I was praying about what to do with my life and about the Race, he said to me, “Serve me first, put me first.” With all the chaos and commotion that comes with everyday life in the states it’s hard to always put the Lord first and serve Him first…but that’s what I hope to do during this trip. The Lord has laid it on my heart to set this time aside for Him alone, a time where I can be completely dedicated to His work and serving Him and His people 🙂
I am incredibly excited for such an amazing opportunity to serve the Lord and His people!! The World Race has been on my heart for years now and I am super pumped for it to finally come to fruition in January 2013!! I have been on many mission trips in the past and have loved every minute of it! I know these 11 months will be far from easy but I am ready to grow and be challenged and changed by the Lord during this time!
