It’s time for never have I ever! This was definitely a month filled with firsts! Some were expected and others were fun surprises. I’m super excited to see what these lists will look like after each month. But without further ado:
Never have I ever, since Ecuador:
- Preached in Spanish!
- Played paintball! I got shot in the chest by our Ecuadorian friend Byron and in the back of the head, execution style by my teammate Lauren. She’s tough!
- Used a machete to clear a big field in the jungle.
- Actually let’s just say, used a machete because I’ve never used one of those!
- And let’s just say worked in the jungle because I’ve never done that either!
- Been covered in bug bites—my legs look like I have the measles or mumps!
- Slept on the floor every day.
- Wore the same 5 shirts over and over again—I already hate all my shirts (except my ENC one of course!) and can’t imagine 10 more months in them!
- Eaten rice almost every single day for a month.
- Been to about 21 church services in a month.
- Helped lead VBS, which is awesome since I don’t really speak Spanish and they don’t really speak English, but we’ve had the most fun ever so it’s ok!
- Since turning, oh I don’t know, 13, been unable to go ANYWHERE by myself. The buddy system is a big deal here (and by buddy I mean at least 4 other buddies).
- Been to an AWESOME Battle of the Bands which was wrongly called a Youth Band Concert. These bands were incredible! One band had a 9 year old drummer that put every drummer I have ever seen to shame!
- Been a regular at a fast food joint. Around the corner from us is a place called Mi Cochito, it’s like a South American KFC except all you can get is soup, rice, French fries and chicken. We go there often because it’s ridiculously cheap and easy. They know us. I’m slightly embarrassed by this.
- Ridden in the back of a pickup truck. That was actually pretty incredible! We went to a church service an hour away (not incredible) and when the service was over it was nighttime. We’re in the middle of the jungle so literally the only lights were the stars and the headlights of the truck we were in.
- Ridden on top of a bus. Oh Ecuador and your crazy travel options!
- Seen a moth about the size of my hand—not awesome.
I’m sure there’s a million more but I can’t remember right now. I hope you’ve enjoyed and I can’t wait to keep sharing more as the year goes on! I miss you and love you!

Me with some of my kids from VBS. I'm working with the 10-12 year olds. They love me 🙂

Me, Nancy and her daughter Lady. Are they not the cutest people you've ever seen?!!??!
