I have no idea why this photo is sideways, it's right side up everywhere else. Weird. Well moral of the story this is Jeff and I getting our game faces on for VBS–it's a tough job but someone's got to do it!
Our first day in Chepen Pastor Juan gave us a schedule. That was maybe one of the single greatest moments of the trip so far (ok that's a slight exaggeration, but if you know me you know I like to know what's going on when!). Each day is a little different but the same each week. For example, Sundays we always have a service in the morning and night and then rest in the afternoon and Mondays are always our day off aka beach day! Wednesday is always home Bible studies and Saturday is always VBS. So here's kind of a general idea of what my life has been like so far:
7:15am Wake up and lay in bed thinking how warm, cozy and happy I am. Listen to some music or read my book.
7:45am Get out of tent, immediately put on sweatshirt, pants, socks and my scarf. It's stinking cold outside the tent/sleeping bag! Think about how I wish I could walk around in my sleeping bag.
8:00am Breakfast! Always rolls (I love them!) with either jelly and fruit or cheese or eggs with a super hot cup of coffee. (have I mentioned how much I love this place!?!??!)
9:00am Team devotions–a month later and we've only just finished Proverbs 3. SERIOUSLY?!!??! Oh we're also reading from Genesis, Psalms and Matthew so we're not going that slow. But Proverbs man oh man it's taking forever!
10:00am If it's a day we're working in the church we start working (painting, cleaning or decorating for an event). if not we usually have free time which we've used to go on a prayer walk, played some card games, had alone time, etc. Today I almost fell asleep in a hammock listening to a book on cd. It was awesome!
12:00pm Lunch! It's usually huge, it ALWAYS has rice and a meat and vegetables and fresh squeezed juice and it's always AMAZING!
1:00-3/4:00pm Time to get ready for the day/ministry. If we have something that afternoon then we're usually showering (and by usually I mean I'm averaging showering every 2-3 days because the water is so stinking cold I have to psych myself up to get under the water and some days I just don't have it in me!) If we don't have anything then we'll have family time. Today we played psychiatrist. It was epic.
3/4:00pm Ministry! Sometimes visitation, sometimes inviting people to church, sometimes handing out tracts. This church is all about spreading the love of God through this town and it's wonderful!
6:00pm Please see the description for lunch.
7/8:00pm Night ministry! Here we're either hanging out with the youth or going to house Bible studies. Sometimes at the end we get coffee and I love it! The people who I've met through these house studies are awesome and I love them and want to take them all home with me.
10:00pm Feedback and family time if we didn't do it earlier in the day. Our team has finally gotten a good groove going for feedback so I'm really enjoying that time even if it is late at night!
11:30pm Get all snuggled up in my sleeping bag, in my tent and fall asleep to the wonderful sounds of mototaxis honking their horns (all night), dogs barking (all night), roosters crowing (all night) and the neighbors weird late night music choices. Last night I fell asleep to Bittney Spears, "I"m Not Yet a Woman" on repeat and woke up at 5am to Spin Doctor's "Two Princes". Seriously?!?! Who are these people.

Some of the VBS kids, aren't they cute!?!?!?
And then repeat! So we're here for one more week and then we head to a different city in Peru–Trujillo–and then on to Bolivia. I can't believe I'm almost done with two months and am about to enter my final South American country! Weird!
