Quito…one of the highest capital cities in the world. High enough that people may not feel well because of the altitude. Patrick warned us that it could happen. Praise the Lord, I have been feeling fine! My team has been feeling well also. I have only felt a little winded at times, mostly went I went for runs in the mornings. It has gotten easier as the days have passed though. As I write this, I can see the snow-covered mountains surrounding Quito; the same mountains over which the sun rises in the mornings. My team is so blessed that this is our home for the rest of January. The sun rises at 6am every day of the year.

Everyday? Yes…Ecuador is one of the countries through which the equator passes. I have seen and stood directly on the equator; stood in two hemispheres at once! I even have the stamp on my passport to prove it! It was an interesting experience to stand on the equator. While there, we were given a guided tour of the “museum” and learned many things about the people of Ecuador and how the equator affects many things. Did you know that water doesn’t spin in any direction as it goes down the drain directly on the equator? That your resistance is lower? That it is harder to walk a straight line? That it is easier to balance an egg on a nail? It’s okay, I didn’t either before going to the equator!

I am ready for more of this country and more of God!
