“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
Frederick Buechner, Wishful Thinking: A Theological ABC
This isn’t an easy post to write about. In fact, I’ve been putting it off for a few months now. But, the closer my trip comes the more pressing it is for me to officially inform everyone what the future holds for me.
I have always wanted to go travel. I have wanted to do missions and love on people and teach them about Jesus for a long time. I never would have imagined that God would call me so early in my life to fulfill this desire. I didn’t believe he would call me away from college and into the world to bring hope to those in need.
I know for some of you reading this, this may sound insane. In fact, it is insane. That’s what God’s call is. It’s so intense. It’s hard. He hasn’t designed for us a life of rainbows and butterflies… He calls us to uncomfortable places and he calls us to do crazy things, but the amazing thing is he also promises that he will always be with us along the way (Joshua 1:9).
This call is what lead me to apply and be accepted into the World Race Gap Year. It’s a program that takes teams of 18-22 year olds into places that are in need, and bringing restorative hope of the Father’s love for 9 months total. I will be going to Guatemala, Lesotho, and Cambodia (spending three months in each country).
As of now, I’m working my hardest to be financially and emotionally prepared for this trip, but I can’t do it alone! No matter how much overtime I work, I won’t be able to earn enough in these next few months to support myself financially on this trip. I am putting my trust in God that he will carry me through every financial need that I encounter both before and during my trip.
If any of you have it on your heart to be apart of my trip, then please help me through donation. You can donate by clicking on my blog and going to the ‘Support Me’ option. If you would like to be apart in other ways, I ask that you support me through prayer. Pray for effectiveness of my team, and pray for my health and safety on this journey.
If you have any questions you can contact me through email at [email protected]. You can also subscribe to my blog to follow along with my journey!
Love,
Melanie
