"UGH, BOB!"

A phrase heard daily in our house last month.

So I am on this thing called the World Race & it basically wrecks your life.
& because I did not think my life had been wrecked enough…
I decided to read a book titled "Love Does"
& what was left of my already wrecked life has now been completely demolished.

In his book, Bob Goff talks about [LOVE]
Wait, don't click off this page just yet!

The love mentioned throughout the book is not that "boy meets girl blah, blah, blah" love.
No, It is about that greater, unconditional, nothing can compare to it kind of LOVE.
The love of God.
The kind of love we are commanded to live out, to show and to extend to those around us.

The kind of love that is mentioned in
John 3:16
1st Corinthians 13
1st John 3:18
(Etc)

The love that we are SUPPOSE to live and walk out daily.

I quickly learned that I SUCK at loving people.
& it seemed with every turn of the page Bob was pointing out another area in my life that needed improvement.
LOTS of improvement.
UGH, BOB!

& it was frustrating.
Mainly because I thought I knew how to love.
I truly believed I was fabulous at loving people.

God's love for us is given freely.
We [don't] have to earn it to receive it.
& if that is true, then how dare we tell people that we encounter
that they must first earn our trust, our love
before we can extend love back to them.

If we are truly imitators of Christ
then there shouldn't be any prerequisites or strings attached to our love.

If LOVE has to be earned, then it IS NOT love.

[ A few Quotes from Love Does ]

"We will know the extent of our love for God by how well we love each other."

"I wonder if He thought each foggy morning, each field of wildflowers would be a quiet and audacious way to demonstrate His tremendous love for us."

"So the next time God asks you to do something that is completely inexplicable, something you're sure is a prank because it requires a decision or courage that's way over your pay grade, something that might even save lives, say yes."

"I use to want to fix people, but now I just want to be with them."

"He saw the need and he did something about it."

"They need a change of attitude not more opportunities."

"I wondered if maybe all Christians operated this way. I didn't think so, because most of them I had met up until that time were kind of wimpy and seemed to have more opinions about what or who they were against than who they were for."

"I don't think Bible verses were meant to be thrown like grenades at each other. They were meant for us to use to point each other toward love and grace and invite us into something much bigger."

"Love is never stationary. In the end, love doesn't just keep thinking about it or planning for it.
Simply Put: Love Does."
