Hello and welcome! My name is Melanie Govan, thanks for stopping by!
I am a 24 year old coffee, hiking, and fox enthusiast. Grand Rapids, Michigan has been home for the past 2 years, which is full of excellent coffee and good hiking if you know where to look, but hosts few foxes, so I will travel the world to find one.
I was born and raised in Michigan by the most wonderful and supportive family. They taught me to love people deeply and encouraged advocating for people who are broken. I was inspired by the beauty of cultures from trips to the library as a kid, soaking up books about Asia and Ancient Egypt. Over the years I decided these two loves could be combined and was determined to bring the joy of the Lord with me overseas.
The past few years have been spent trying to serve within my local community before being sent into the world. I have been blessed to work with refugees, those without homes, and children in the foster system. I have learned so much from each of these groups, and now feel called to take what I have learned and apply it on a more global scale.
God’s timing is so good- Nine years ago my mom told me about this crazy thing called The World Race, and I have been asking Him to “send me!” ever since. And now, I get to experience this adventure! He has called me to go!
Guys, I am a wonderfully broken person. As it turns out, the Lord LOVES using broken people to help restore other broken people. I am beyond overjoyed to see how God is going to use my team to empower this broken world to become overwhelmed by His unfailing love.
Buckle up and grab a steaming cup of coffee, because it’s about to get wild, friends.
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
-Isaiah 6:8
