I cannot believe that I am sitting in a train station waiting to depart Romania – it went so quickly! Our time in Arcalia was awesome. We had a really hard time saying good bye to our host family, Gabby and Nalu, and all the children in the community – I was amazed at how close we became after only three weeks!

We left Arcalia on the 21st of September and traveled to Brasov, Romania for the first annual World Race Awakening conference. 250 current World Racers, alumni, and staff came together in Brasov for 4 days of teaching, worship, sharing stories, and having fun – it was incredible. I hope to share more about what I learned as I process the changes in my life because the conference was huge for me.

Until then, here are my lessons learned from month two:

  • There are a million ways to cook salami and beans.
  • Sometimes prayers for healing aren’t answered immediately and that is hard.

  • Hand gestures and sounds go a long way in the face of language barriers.

  • Preferring others (putting others first) takes on a whole new meaning when 5 teammates are sick and need the outhouse…

  • Everyone has a story that is worth sharing. Everyone has a story that is worth listening to.

  • Being greeted by children shouting your name, running and jumping on you does something nice for the soul.

  • You know you’re on the World Race if you are grateful for watching the sunrise from the outhouse and bathing means using a baby wipe on your arms.

  • Praying can be a draining ministry.

  • Missionary skirts, head bands, and big earrings are all the rage. Just ask every World Race girl.

  • Rabbit really does taste like chicken.

  • Abandonment is really hard. But the freedom that comes from letting everything go is worth it.

Now, my team is heading south to Bulgaria and I couldn’t be more excited about it! This month we are on a pioneering mission to explore the cities of Sofia and Tarnovo, as the World Race has never sent teams into that country. Our mission is to get a feel for the spiritual climate, begin relationships in the local Christian community, and plow the way for future teams, all while meeting felt needs. Nothing is set up for us logistically (housing, transportation, ministry opportunities, etc.) so we are being stretched and really learning to rely on the direction of the Holy Spirit.

Thank you for your prayers as we start our third month!
