I cannot believe that I am sitting in a train station waiting to depart Romania – it went so quickly! Our time in Arcalia was awesome. We had a really hard time saying good bye to our host family, Gabby and Nalu, and all the children in the community – I was amazed at how close we became after only three weeks! Until then, here are my lessons learned from month two:
- There are a million ways to cook salami and beans.
-
Sometimes prayers for healing aren’t answered immediately and that is hard.
-
Hand gestures and sounds go a long way in the face of language barriers.
-
Preferring others (putting others first) takes on a whole new meaning when 5 teammates are sick and need the outhouse…
-
Everyone has a story that is worth sharing. Everyone has a story that is worth listening to.
-
Being greeted by children shouting your name, running and jumping on you does something nice for the soul.
-
You know you’re on the World Race if you are grateful for watching the sunrise from the outhouse and bathing means using a baby wipe on your arms.
-
Praying can be a draining ministry.
-
Missionary skirts, head bands, and big earrings are all the rage. Just ask every World Race girl.
-
Rabbit really does taste like chicken.
-
Abandonment is really hard. But the freedom that comes from letting everything go is worth it.

Thank you for your prayers as we start our third month!
