We spent the past month at Remember Nhu. In the mornings we did manual labor (which
consisted of construction work or yard work) until the girls came home from
school. After the girls did their
chores, we had the rest of the evening to spend time with them and help them
with homework or just play games with them.
I think it was in week two that we were coming home from the
night market that it really hit me the significance Remember Nhu has and how
powerfully God is working through this organization. Right before we left the market, Kerri told
us that we would be driving through an area with a lot of brothels, and about
90% of the girls we have met would most likely be working at one of these
brothels if Remember Nhu wasn’t in existence.

Malz is one of the little girls that I fell in love
with. She was wild and hyperactive and
all over the place.. right up my alley.
The only word she spoke in English to me was, “you,” but man she could
communicate an infinite amount of things with just that word. She loves to ‘surprise’ tickle people and run
around and be chased. She has a joy to
her that I pray never leaves her.
My parents had the opportunity to meet her on skype, which
is one of my favorite memories there. I
was talking to my parents and she came and sat on my lap. She took the headphones out of my ear and put
them in her ears. When she had something
to say (in Thai) to my parents, she would take the earbud out of her ear and
use it as a microphone and then put it back in her ear to wait for a
response.
She had a humor that not all always found amusing but it
cracked me up and I appreciated. On the
second to last day there, she was sitting on my lap while we were playing a
game. She leaned in to tell me a secret
but instead burped. Two things I have to
say about that: 1. I should have
realized she didn’t have anything to say to me since she doesn’t speak
English. 2. I guess the saying ‘what
goes around comes around’ is true]

It takes a toll on your heart when you think of Malz and you
realize the life she could have
had. God has great things in store for
each and everyone of those girls.
