My Swaziland highlight for the month: I met this little boy this month who I have absolutely fallen in love with.  The first day we saw him, Lauren noticed that he had a lot of puss coming out of his ears even after cleaning up his ears multiple times.  After talking to our contact and the health motivator of the town, we took him to the health clinic.
We waited there for about 3ish hours before we could finally see the doctor.  The doctor didn’t even look at the kids ears- He said that the boy has a chronic ear infection and wants his mom to go get him tested for HIV because this is a common symptom of HIV.  Hearing that news absolutely broke my heart.  The fact that he sees this so often to know what the problem is and just casually say this little precious innocent 5 year old has HIV.
For the first time I sat there and understood what it meant to have faith in God in the sense that He is all loving and all good and everything works out according to His good pleasing and perfect will… because this experience was telling me otherwise.  I felt like I was constantly saying in my prayers I believe God.. I believe, help my unbelief.
It took a week for him to finally get tested.. it was something I had to initiate (I learned earlier that week that she was HIV positive and also she has a mental disorder).
The odds were definitely against little Thando (I don’t know how to say his full name, but his full name actually translates to God’s love in English).  But for that entire week between taking him to the clinic for the first time and going back to get Thando tested for HIV, I prayed for God to heal him of this HIV nonstop…
The Tuesday before I left, I took him to the clinic with his mom to get him tested and he doesn’t have HIV!!!
I don’t honestly do not know if he ever had it to begin with, but I believe that God healed him.
By the way, we also have new teams, and I absolutely love my team 🙂
