If you read my last post, I talked a lot about the mountains here in Ecuador. If not, check it out, and this post will carry a lot more weight. Shocker, this post is also about the mountains here, they are INSANE. Mountains are such a cool and powerful way to encounter God, I mean one of the Jesus’ most powerful teachings was on a huge mountain. God definitely made them for us to enjoy, and to show us His glory through creation. Pictures will be posted, if you wanted to see 🙂
So, I talked a lot about the mountains being so huge, and how tiny it made me feel. And how cool it is that the God that created them, cares so deeply about me and you. I finished writing that post, and then had a REALLY cool moment with the Lord that put it all together. And I’m so thankful that He allowed me to see these beautiful mountains, in order to experience Him in this way.
Today at ministry, we had about an hour break between when we finished setting up for an event, and when we needed to begin welcoming people. We could have just taken a long break, but we asked if we could worship. They allowed us to use their speaker system and their main room, and we just worshipped God for like 45 minutes. SO fun. SO good. We made a collaborative playlist, and each added some worship songs, and just let it shuffle. One of my favorite songs is “The Great I am”, and I so needed to hear it that day.
One part, that is repeated throughout the song, says
“The mountains shake before Him
the demons run and flee,
at the mention of His name
King of Majesty
There is no power in hell
or any who can stand
before the power and the presence of the Great I Am”
First of all, read that again, if you didn’t listen to the song. Take it in, and know that as truth. I stood declaring these things out loud, and the image of tiny me beneath these HUGE mountains was vivid in my mind.
“The mountains quake before Him, the hills melt, and the earth heaves at His presence, yes the world and all who dwell in it”
Nahum 1:5
These huge mountains, literally quake in the presence of God. Two things:
- Why do we, who are much more tiny than they, not recognize the greatness and power of God. We put Him off “if we have time later”, or for when we need Him. We don’t wake up daily, and acknowledge Him as the powerful God that He is. But the mountains, that are a million times larger than we are, quake at the sight of Him. Who do we think we are?? This was super convicting to me.
- If the mountains shake so much in His presence, do we really think our enemies can stand against Him. Our problems, our sins, the things that we battle daily, are nothing in comparison to Him. You can’t tell me that any of those things are bigger than the mountains, who tremble in the presence of God. Invite Him to battle these things with you, and watch them fade away.
This was such a powerful reminder, that I needed to hear. That we all need to hear sometimes. Who are we to think that anything we could face is more powerful than the God who created us.
Going off of that, this song mentions that the demons run and flee at the mention of His name. Any demon that you are fighting, are terrified of our God, they can’t even stand in the sound of His name. Do not ever get it twisted, and believe that anything is greater than God. There is no power in hell, or anyone or anything, that can stand before the power any the presence of God.
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”
Romans 8:31-32
