This is the month I had been most excited about and anticipating for the past 8 months. I am in Uganda!! And to make things even better our contact asked us what areas we were most interested in and wanted to work with this month. My teammate, Abby, and I didn’t even hesitate….HOSPITAL MINISTRY!!! This was going to be the best month yet on the race!
I wanted hospital ministry. I wanted to visit patients and bring smiles to their faces and play with the younger patients. I wanted to take a motorcycle to the hospital everyday spend a few hours and then go home at the end of the day and take full advantage of every minute I have left with my team. I wanted to make a difference and then give God glory for it.
God had other plans.
"My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the LORD. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine." Isaiah 55:8
I am the patient this month, and Abby has been beside me every step of the way. Our ministry…hospital staff. The relationships we have built with the staff are God ordained. WE have put Nurse Emmy in contact with Compassion in hopes to help the children and families in his village, Abby is also going to teach him to swim. Nurse Olivia comes and talks after her shift just to hang out before going home to her family. Joseph, the guy from housekeeping, just left, he came to talk during his break. There are more nurses, doctors, and other staff members God has allowed our paths to cross. I have seen pictures of their families, heard stories about their children, and have been able to befriend these beautiful children of God.
There are times I am frustrated because this month doesn’t look like what I want it to look like, but I can honestly say…I wouldn’t change anything. Without this hospital bed our paths wouldn’t have crossed, and perhaps my new friends wouldn’t be encouraged and loved on like they are when they come to room 325.
Message to The Sheilas:
My girls!! I miss you all, terribly! I am blessed by you all and am thankful for 6 beautiful, amazing, compassionate sisters that God has given me. The prayers have been felt, the visits have been amazing, and the banana bread was out of this world!! You also have made an impact on the staff here. Whenever you aren’t here the staff asks, “Where are the friends?” You are loved!!
