My flight to training camp took off at 6am. About 30 minutes in, the clouds below us began to turn pink. I unfortunately had an aisle seat, so there were two people between me and the window. I looked around me to see if anyone was as interested in the sky as I was, thinking, “Are you guys seeing this?!” I was surprised to see the glow of electronic devices, and that almost half of the people on the plane actually had their windows closed. The couple next to me were on their phones and I so badly wanted to say, “Guys, look up!”
As the sky turned from pink to red, I began to think about the things we miss, bigger than sunrises, due to distractions. I imagine God placing things and people right in front of me, that I don’t even see due to things that I put before my God. I imagine Him sitting the same way I was on the plane and saying, “Megan, look up!”
Maybe the woman closest to the window flies all the time, maybe she has seen a lot of sunrises from above the clouds, but that brings me to another point. I hope we never lose our awe and wonder over our blessings, no matter how small, and no matter how many times we are given them. I pray we see God’s goodness in everything and that we never look away.
I encourage you to think about the things that currently stand between you and God. Mark 4:19 says, “the worries of this age, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and the word becomes unfruitful.”
Who and what is your heart currently fixed on?
What windows do you have closed?
What things, here on earth, have distracted you from what is above?
Look up! You might see pink and red sunrises, but I can promise you, you will always see Him.
