On the first night of launch, I was laying on the floor in my hotel room in Atlanta, writing out dreams and prayers that I have for the race. Towards the end I wrote, “I pray that I fall without resisting.”

The definition of falling:

“to go down freely by the force of gravity”

I have turned these words over and over in my head, trying to figure out how “freely by the force” made any sense at all. How can something fall freely when it is being forced by something else? I realized that these words are actually so huge, that they carry so much weight, and my mind ran with them.

Say we are falling, and the gravity that is mentioned is God

“to fall freely by the force of God

After writing this down, and coming back to the prayer I had about falling, I did more research. This might take you back to high school science class, just bear with me.

How does one fall freely?

Free fall only occurs for falling objects when gravity is the only force at work.

Therefore:

We are only able to free fall if God is the only force at work.

This leads me to the next question:

What other force would keep an object from free falling?

Something called air resistance, which is a force of air particles that act in the opposite direction of the object that is falling. This causes the object to resist the falling, therefore slowing it down.

So if we turn this back to us:

What is in the air that we are falling in, that is creating resistance? What things are we holding onto, causing us to fight God’s gravity? And most importantly, why did we give the enemy permission to dwell in our airspace?

I pray, so so deeply, that we learn to fall into God without resisting. The word falling usually has a negative connotation, but in this case, this is the sweetest fall imaginable. By putting on the armor of God and releasing what slows us down, this is a fall of complete surrender, letting God be the only force at work.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11

“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name.” Psalm 91:14

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
