Luke 6:27-29 – “After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus said to gim, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.”
When Levi left everything and followed Jesus, that does not mean he abandoned his family and dumped all his friends and sold his house and gave away all his things and money.
Levi leaving everything wasn’t the act of becoming homeless. Levi leaving everything was the instant impulse to drop whatever he was preoccupied with to obey Jesus. Though the riches of this world, when they have a grip on us, produce evil, they are not a means to an end, not even to a tax collector. Rather, they are a gift from God to us so we can throw a great banquet in his honor.
“Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil- this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.” – Ecclesiastes 5:19-20
What “great banquet” are you going to throw for Jesus?
