Hey everyone! welcome to my blog π My name is Megan Vanlandeghem. I am 21 years old. I have 5 siblings: 1 older sister, two younger sisters, and two little brothers! I’m passionate about living a life full of memories rather then a life full of things. I love traveling, cooking, baking, spending time with family & friends π I currently work at Starbucks as a Shift Manager. I love my job because I get to meet all kinds of great people. It’s flexible with my traveling and I get to drink a lot of coffee ;).
Why the World Race?
I actually heard about the race while I was in ministry school in 2014. One of my classmates had just come back from their race. I felt a spark when I heard about it and began to search it out but ,at the time I was still too young. I put it on the back burner. I got comfortable with where I was at. I loved my job and was able to go on short term missions trips and work with ministries in my area until… My dear friend Dana signed up for the World Race! That got the wheels turning in my head. Over a couple weeks, it kept coming to mind and I kept going back and forth. Then one day, an ad popped up offering to waive the application fee. Still, I thought I should “think” a little more. One day, I opened my phone and a short cut to the world race route I was considering had downloaded to my home screen! It was one of those “whoa moments” and I thought to myself I should really pray about this. Later that week, my phone beeped, it was a reminder that I had a coupon for the world race and it was expiring that evening. I had been praying about it and I felt like this was something I was really suppose to do! I put in my application and Bam here we are! π Anyway, I would like to share just a little more on my heart for missions and why I’m willing to set everything aside for 11 months. π
I have always loved serving & I’ve always had a passion for traveling. Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to go on mission trips to Costa Rica, Los Angeles & Honduras. I worked with ministries that help people coming out of human trafficking, Rehab, Children homes, The homeless & Prison. I also have had the opportunity to serve working with Children after school. We ministered in a neighborhood where the police asked my church to help. Many of the kids were getting involved with drugs and gangs and the police thought we could make a difference. I also worked with a ministry that poured out love on women working in strip clubs. We spoke life into the women, prayed for them and loved on them. Having the opportunity to Love and serve these people in all walks of life has touched my life in ways I cannot express. It has created a fire and a passion for missions and I know its a part of the purpose and calling on my life. I love touching people’s lives, giving them an encounter of Gods love and seeing people healed and free. I also love seeing Gods creativity in all the different places of the world, the amazing people, the different cultures and the natural beauty. Working with Kids and inspiring them to dream is one of my favorite things to do! I love people, it is easy for me to see the best in other’s even if they can’t see it themselves. I am Passionate about showing people their identity through Christ and Encouraging people in their dreams. I strongly believe that no dream that God has put in your heart is out of reach! I can say with certainty that I know God has called me to this! Even if He asked me to do all this, leaving my home, family & my life here for these 11 months just for one person along the way it would be worth it! God has put it in my heart to love the one in front of me whether they be around the world or down the street. π
Well thats all for today. Talk to you soon! π
