Has anyone every watched that American TV show: “What Would You Do?” It is essentially scenarios that are set up with hidden cameras and they are seeing how people react (or don’t react) to what is happening.
I experienced this kind of phenomenon just the other day here in Bulgaria. We were sitting outside of our ministry building, waiting for the church camp to leave when all of the sudden, a commotion happens across the street.
We hear yelling, and then a man emerges from the corner store holding a small child and trying to put the child in a car. An older woman is screaming at him and then starts punching him. After he puts the child in the car he starts wailing on the woman with punches of his own.
No one did anything. People sitting outside of the store just sat there and watched.
We sat there and are like; why isn’t anyone helping? Is this really happening? Is anyone going to help.
A man walked over, but didn’t really do anything. There were many punches and the guy’s shirt got ripped. The child was taken out of the car and the guy got locked out of the store so he got into his car and sped away.
As I sat there; watching this all unfold, I was like should I have done something? What could I have done?
There is a language barrier, I don’t really know the whole situation, I don’t know the culture well enough (can a woman even get involved in a situation like that), etc. etc.
All I could do was pray.
What would you do?
