Romania kept me very busy! I hardly had any time to blog, but I wanted to give you a taste of all happened. So, here’s a bulleted list to give you a snapshot of my month in Romania.
- I lived with the other 28 people on my squad, and shared a bathroom with 21 other women.
- Speaking of the bathroom, there were 2 showers and 2 toilets, but only 3 stalls because one of the toilets was actually in the shower.
- Also: the bathroom floor was very frequently wet.
- Last bathroom one I promise: no mirror in the bathroom, so we ended up being mirrors for each other!
- Cars shared the road with a lot of horses and wagons.
- Running on the street proved to be an obstacle course due to the little presents left by the horses.
- People were very open to talking about God.
- Worshiped together with another World Race Squad at Debrief and had the Lord directly pursue me through a new friendship.
- We had chickens and ducks in the backyard of our house.
- I got sick for the first time on the Race just a day before we left.
- A day after that, for the first time in my life I had some sort of allergic reaction and swelled with hives of a very lovely shade of red.
- I prayed for five people to come to know Jesus and IT HAPPENED.
- I also prayed to be able to see someone come to know the Lord and He graciously answered yes.
- My friends and I bought all the flowers this woman had and handed them out to strangers. One of my favorite connections we made!
- I harvested corn for the first time in my life!
- I served the Lord in a myriad of capacities, including: evangelizing, construction, painting, and kids’ ministry!
- God broke into my spirit in ways that it’s hard for me to explain.
- My roommates caught a mouse that was pestering us all month. (They released it into the wild. But that’s just because the dog out back wouldn’t eat it.)
- I learned more about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and about my spiritual gifts specifically.
- God told me to ask Him for good things.
- I smacked my face into a wall.
- I started to feel more comfortable in my own skin around my squadmates.
- I grew deep friendships that I know are going to last beyond these 11 months.
- I held a baby AND he fell asleep in my arms!
- I ate probably the most delicious bread that exists on the planet.
- I talked to people in Spanish.
- I climbed a mountain and marveled at the view.
This small snapshot barely does it justice. I didn’t really have any expectations walking into Romania, but God blew me away here and He’s continuing the good work that He started in me.
