Ministry is in full swing here in Ukraine! Stay tuned for a blog about the work we are doing in Ternopil. For now, enjoy a rousing episode of Megs doing things she never thought she’d do.
Chase me down outside of Georgia
I was sure that I was done
Something in me would not turn around and run
Heard the Lord in California
I remembered who I was and I learned to dance
With the fear that I’d been running from
– Fear by Ben Rector –
Jelly legs. Shaking hands. Tight throat.
I have no greater visceral reaction to fear than with heights. I wish I could control it, but every time I fall to pieces.
But I absolutely LOVE to conquer my fear. More on that later.
I lived a large portion of my life as a slave to fear. I let it determine what decisions I made. I let it keep me from following the call of God. I let it stop me from stepping into deeper intimacy with the Lord.
I think the more you conquer a fear the easier it gets. You conquer a small fear and next time you can conquer a bigger one. One day, you kill that spider. The next, you get on that rollercoaster. After that, you jump into the depths of following the Lord, not knowing where He is leading.
I love this Ben Rector song. When you feel like you just can’t face your fears, don’t turn around, don’t run. Dance with your fears. Conquer them over and over again. Get comfortable with stepping into a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
// Joshua 1:9 //
Typically, your fears will keep you just outside of the edge of greatness. Had I listened to my fear of heights, I wouldn’t have gotten to zipline for the first time in my life over a river in the City on a Stone in Ukraine, and capture this amazing view. Had I listened to my fear of what people would think about me doing the World Race, I never would’ve been here in the first place.
The Lord will be with you wherever you go. I remind myself of this fact whenever I consider doing something that scares me.
I challenge you to do something that scares you today. Your fear may not always leave you, but you have the choice of whether or not you listen. Do not be afraid. Don’t turn around and run. Be strong and courageous. Dance with those fears. Reap all the amazing benefits that comes with being totally hardcore and taking that leap.
Side note: prepare to be addicted – conquering your fears is absolutely exhilarating.
>>Shoutout to my teammates for encouraging me and challenging me to take this wild ride.
Me on the edge (literally).
Off I go!
Relaxing slightly (verrrry slightly).
“THIS IS AMAZING!” -me
