Let me tell you about my best friend.
Ours is a friendship that I know will never end. It’s a friendship I’ll never tire of. It’s always exciting, always an adventure, and always keeps me on my toes.
My best friends name is Jesus.
I hear Him in the rustling of the leaves on the trees. I see Him in the red Swaziland dirt. I feel Him when I’m cozy in bed watching a movie.
He’s with me when I’m spending time with my team, He’s with me when I’m running around with children all day at Joyela, and He’s with me when I’m laying in the hammocks resting.
He is everywhere and all around.
He’s in the South African thunderstorm. He’s in all the laughter of my squad. He’s even in the silence.
He challenges me and asks me to do hard things (that I really would rather not do sometimes) but at the same time, He calls me His “darling” and his beloved daughter.
He has a sense of humor. He makes me laugh whenever I get home from Joyela and I look in the mirror because I think I look so dirty and disgusting. I know He’s laughing with me and saying “ya did good today kid. And you still look beautiful too. I’m a proud dad.”
Life with Jesus right now, looks like Him waiting for me every moment of every day with a sign and balloons like He’s asking me to be His prom date for life. I imagine Him standing there with that big cheesy smile and excitement in his eyes waiting for me to make my choice, yes or no. But, how could I say no to that face? I mean common, He has a sign and balloons!!
My best friend never has to force me to say yes or answer Him quickly. He waits for me patiently. He gives me a choice. He looks at me with love. He dances with me when I’m stoked on life, and He hugs me and offers His shoulder to cry on when life gets hard.
This is a friendship I don’t deserve but have been gifted with since the day I met Him. Wowza !! I can’t even wrap my brain around that. All I can do is thank Him for loving me so well and strive to spend every second with Him.
He is and will always be my best friend.
