I am beyond excited to be following my calling of mission work through the World Race program. I will be the physical hands and feet of Christ in the countries of Peru and Ecuador from August 28th to November 26th. During this mission trip, I will be having opportunities to minister in hospitals, on the streets, while building houses, working in Vacation Bible Schools, and by creating Christ-centered relationships with the community.

There are two major reasons I choose Peru and Equador: I know the language and I know the culture. I “learned” Spanish in high school but really learned it in Anapra, Mexico where I participated in three week-long mission trips between my sophomore and senior years. This gave me an idea of Latin culture and the differences in the way we view time, authority, respect, family, and purpose. Through hard work (and some google translate) I was able to build relationships with the people we built houses for, see their faith in action, and build them a house. I intend to take these skills and experience with me to Peru and Ecuador this fall.

So, what gave me the idea to commit to a three-month mission trip and sequentially, what gave me the courage to take this opportunity? I have found that I feel my life has the most purpose when I am serving other people, but more specifically, following the Great Commission while serving other people.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20a

Another racer that participated in an eleven-month mission trip inspired the idea in me when I was looking for something more than college right away. I wanted to feel fulfilled and refreshed before entering the next phase of my life. She introduced the idea to me and I ran with it. From the moment I began looking into it, everything seemed to fit; I knew this was my calling and I believe the Holy Spirit put it on my heart. He has given me the courage to take this unorthodox leap of faith into my future that I believe will utilize my gifts in a Christ-centered fashion.

Thank you for all your support whether that might be emotionally, spiritually, or financially. I ask for your prays as I prepare for this life-changing experience. God Bless You.
