Worship. Defined as “reverent honor and homage paid to God” is a word that I think a lot of believers don’t fully understand or consider. Worship is so much more than what we associate it with–music. It is the act of giving honor and glory to our Savior. I used to think of a Sunday morning going as follows: worship, a sermon, communion, giving, and fellowship. That isn’t necessarily untrue but all those things are worship as long as they are done in order to bring glory to God. Our Father delights in a preacher teaching His flock His truths, He delights in taking part in remembering the sacrifice He made for us despite our sinful nature, in us selflessly giving to and supporting the church or otherwise as long as it bring Him glory, and He delights in us spending time praying, laughing, talking and eating with the body of Christ.

Growing up, I spent so much time outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. My parents always made sure we noticed the little things in creation. A beautiful tree or cool looking bug, the ripples on a lake or the colors of a sunrise or sunset. Whenever we looked at these things in awe, I believe we brought glory to God…we were worshiping Him. He created the earth for our enjoyment and He created us for His enjoyment so why would we not desire to worship Him in all we do?

When I first started traveling on my own in 2014, I was inundated with so many sights, smells, new experiences and cultures and I enjoyed every minute of it. God opened my eyes to so many beautiful things that He created and I gave Him the glory for what He had created and allowed me to experience. For me, the World Race is so different from my previous traveling. Although I worshipped God in my experiences and was in awe of Him wherever I went before, I have never traveled out of the country for the sole and intentional purpose of bringing glory to God and worshiping Him in all that I saw and experienced. I cannot wait for Him to show me so many more facets of how I can worship. I believe the opportunities I will have to worship my Lord on the mission field will be endless; from walking across miles of foreign land, serving orphans, playing with children, building homes and churches, bringing smiles and joy to the less fortunate, growing with my fellow missionaries and so much more, I look forward to what the Lord will do in my heart and around the world.

What about you? Have you ever viewed worship as any act that brings glory to God? Do you view communion, giving, laughing and even walking as an act of worship? Well, it can be. The bible says, “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”. I challenge you to take a step of faith and worship God in a new way today.

Blessings to you! Thanks for reading.
