Last week, when my team was trekking in the mountains of the Anna Purna region of the Himalayas, I got to see the sun peek over the snow capped mountain tops and thank the Father for another day of life, another day to bring glory to His name.
We arrived in a small village and after settling our things in the homestay and separated into 2 groups to visit different families. My group got to share in the encouragement of new believers in this village which is predominantly Buddhist.
The unwavering faith of this couple, even through the direct persecution they are experiencing from their own nephew, was such a beautiful picture of how the Father desires all of us to live. It’s like these people really understand when Paul says, ‘to live is Christ, to die is gain’.
Each day we have the choice to either live for Christ or not…I know what i want to choose!
I was able to bless this couple, who are probably in their 70’s, with an audio Bible from Digital Bible Society in Conroe. The wife can’t read well and the husband is beginning to lose his sight so this audio Bible is going to change their lives. Giving these audio Bibles to people in need has been one of the greatest gifts I’ve received on the race!
As we were leaving their home, they told our translator that tonight they were going to lay in bed and listen to the word on their new Bible for the 1st time! Their excitement for scripture is the kind of excitement I want to have…their faith in the protection of the Father is the kind of faith I want to have. They may never read the Bible again, but they will hear it. I pray this audio Bible changes not only their lives but the lives of every person in their village.
Please be in prayer for this couple as they continue to seek the Lord and endure persecution. Pray that the Lord, through their faith, changes the hearts of the people in this village to follow Him.
To those of you who supported me in this sweet opportunity, thank you! My team got to witness to and encourage new believers because of your generosity and gifts!
• A couple things about the trek •
There were leeches everywhere and 2 hooked onto me the 1st day…our host had to pull them off!
It rained our 2nd day of trekking and all the rocks were really slippery!
The lodge we stayed in the 1st night was so simple with simply 3 beds and a small night stand. There was a cold shower, a squatty potty and a toilet and the electricity went in and out…but despite those things, after being on the race for 7 months, it felt like absolute luxury! A comfy bed, a shower and a window that overlooked the Himalayas—it can’t get much better than that!
Stay tuned for an update about our next country…ARMENIA!!
