This morning I woke up to the sound of the waves on Lake Tahoe crashing against the shore. I got up and looked out of our tent and saw the mountains, the sunshine and the water. With no hesitation, I got up and went for a short run. Upon returning, I was greeted by my sisters who had decided to prepare breakfast for me while I was gone, what a sweet gesture and huge blessing to me. We prepared our things and headed to the lake with our little inflatable boat. I had the ‘great’ idea of making an anchor with rope and a rock so we could just relax once we got away from shore a bit. I tied a bunch of knots around the rock, wrapped the rope around and around and thought it was strong enough. We got out to where we wanted to be and I dropped the anchor, so proud of what I’d thought of. A couple minutes later, I tugged on the rope to see if it was still holding us down…the whole rope came back into the boat without the rock. We all realized we were quickly floating back to shore. My anchor had failed.

This made me think of our walk with Christ. He is, or should be, our anchor. Sometimes it feels like we’re good. Like we’re doing everything a good Christian should be doing and living our life right with the right ‘knots’ all on the right places. But are they really? If we are not firmly anchored and tied around Christ in every aspect of our lives, we will drift back to shore…back to a place far from Christ. Having Him as the center and firm foundation of our life is crucial to our walk with Him and our lives in general. I challenge you to examine yourself and where you are with Christ. I don’t want to be in a boat tied to a rope that I knotted around a little rock. I want to be firmly anchored to the one true rock, Jesus Christ.
