This month in Jamaica has been amazing. Me and my team had the privilege of living in a family’s home for the month. We got to share meals, celebrate birthdays, and have game nights with them. The family was so welcoming and made this month one of my favorites so far. This month was also really challenging because part of our month was doing street evangelism, which is something way out of my comfort zone. One day I was in a group with our host, Pastor Raymond who is incredibly wise and bold when it comes to sharing his faith. It’s hard not to just watch in amazement when he talks to people. At first I found myself shocked by his bold approach, but ever thing he said came from a place of love.

There was a point during the day when I questioned him about something. Later that day a teammate of mine asked him about his heart behind what he does as a pastor. He shared about his passion behind everything he’s doing and the challenges that come along with it. I felt so convicted about earlier that day, because I realized that my comment could have been something encouraging instead of questioning. I realized in that moment how powerful words are.

Words have the power to give life, or crush someone’s spirit.  I want my words to encourage and give life.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you oh Lord my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
