“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Is there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! In everything, treat others as you would want them to treat you, for this fulfills the law and the prophets.”
-Matthew 7: 7-11
The beginning of my last college spring semester was about 10 days ago, and with it came a lot of change. Some was expected, some wasn’t. For instance, something that was expected was my school workload to get bigger. Check. I also expected to hear the question “So what are you going to do when you graduate?” a thousand times. Double check. What wasn’t expected? Well, my wonderful old roommate, Melissa McBride, graduated in December and moved back home. I always figured that she’d end up back in Birmingham until we left for the Race…wrong. So, I was alone in my apartment. Living alone for the first time ever and I was not really liking it.

We knew each other so well (and got along so well), we bought each other the same Christmas present without planning it!
Enter God’s provision…Within two days of school starting, the Lord brought me closer to a girl I’d only previously had contact with through nursery/preschool duty at a church in Birmingham. I explained to her over coffee that I was living alone and I didn’t really like it or want to be. I feel that God has created us as humans to be in community with one another and to not be alone. Scripture even says “it is not good for man to be alone” (Gen. 2:18), which is why God created a companion for Adam. So there I was, completely baring my soul about how much I didn’t want to live by myself to a girl I barely knew and I was slightly freaking out inside. I had no idea how she would take it, but it had been on my heart for several days to speak about it with someone. So I did. And then something wonderful happened. Amy looked at me and said, “we have a third bedroom and we need a full time roommate. You can move in tomorrow if you want.” Wow. Talk about provision! I was completely and still am blown away by how well it’s working out. And it’s all because of the LORD! He loves to give good gifts to us and provide for our needs. Which made me think, if He can do this then surely God can bring in $14,800. Now I’m just excited to see how that happens!
