Hello from Baray District in Cambodia! This week we are staying at Khmer Homestay with our very gracious host, Esther. She is originally from Malaysia. She bought Khmer Homestay and the Solar Café and has been using both to impact the community. She creates jobs for people who can’t find work and empowers them in the work that she gives them. Her ministry lies in “teaching them how to fish” as opposed to “giving them a fish,” so her ministry is mainly education.
Team Post Office has been staying in two of her chalets. The generator comes on for two hours a night and that’s the only electricity we have all day. A HUGE blessing though is that they use car batteries to power fans that last through the night, so we get to have a breeze. Oh and if I haven’t mentioned it yet, it’s ridiculously hot here! I thought Australia was bad, but I’ve come to realize that this race is just going to be hot. It’s funny, I think every country we’ve gone to, our ministry contact has said, “this is the hot month”…EVERY MONTH. Haha so we carry on-sweating. Another huge blessing is the cool showers everyday. The water is from the well, but the water pressure is awesome! So really, there is a lot to be thankful for here in Cambodia.
Our ministry includes teaching English in the morning and then construction work after lunch, then more English after supper. It is the Cambodian New Year starting the 14th, so apparently things are about to get crazy and loud. We will be having a kids celebration on Monday where we get to share our testimonies and play with the kids from the community. It’s been a blessing to see the willingness from my team to try new things and work hard. They are putting forth a lot of effort and I’m really blessed by them! They all maintain pretty good attitudes despite this crazy heat!!
