we’ve had the amazing privilege of hanging out and learning from a great man of
God, Roger. I find it necessary to dedicate this blog to Roger Latham.
saved at the age of 23. The first person he led to the Lord was his wife, Viv
(who is an equally amazing child of God). He says that the Lord told him to
follow up and disciple her, so he married her…he’s got a great sense of humor.
They have 3 lovely kids that I am sad I have not met. Roger and Viv say they
all love the Lord and by the stories they’ve told about each one, I’d have to
agree. The Latham’s bought a bit of property across the bay from Darwin and
have been growing it into their home base. It is abut a 20 minute drive to the
aboriginal community, Belyuen, where they have become a fixture and a radiant
light for God’s Kingdom. God gave Roger this vision of having a Jerusalem,
Judea, and a Samaria for ministry. The Belyuen Community in the Darwin area is
Roger’s ‘Jerusalem’-his home base for fellowship and where he belongs. His ‘Judea’
is the Northern Territory of Australia and all the aboriginal communities
within them, mainly Port Keats/Wadeye. Roger’s vision for his Samaria is
international missions and supporting international missionaries
Roger is
spreading the Gospel through music. He has a brilliant method of teaching
music, especially with guitars (if you want to learn how to play the guitar,
email Roger for his DVD’s [email protected]…I learned to play 12 songs in 45 minutes). He travels
around the Northern Territory teaching kids and adults how to play the guitar while at the same
time teaching important biblical truths. He has such an anointing over him and
all that he does! When I sit in his presence I feel like I am sitting with an
apostle. He has great one-liners (or as I like to call them, Roger-isms). One
of the first things I noticed about him was that whenever there was a lull in
conversation, he filled it by simply saying, “Praise God!” He’s always singing worship songs or singing
his praise to God. He also told our team “don’t live a boring life” which I
plan not to do. But I have to tell you one of the greatest stories that he has
shared with me…
years ago, Roger got really sick. He had no reason to be sick, as Viv is a
nurse and makes sure he is in good health. He was taken to the hospital and
spent two days there. Because he was in the hospital for two days, he was taken
away from being in fellowship with the people God has put on his heart. Also,
because he was sick and was away from his ministry, he knew it was a spiritual
attack from Satan and that Satan was “wasting his precious time”. That’s when
he told Satan something that, in my mind, will change the world for God’s
Kingdom. He told the Devil, “The first day will cost you a million souls. The
second day will cost you a million dollars.” And so this powerhouse for God got
a whole new fire to defeat the gates of hell. Roger’s mission is to bring 1
million souls into the Kingdom of God. He also plans to make Satan lose 1
million dollars; money that will be put into bringing God’s Kingdom. I believe
that Roger is well on his way to doing such a thing and I will be praying for
this mission to come to fruition. The
gates of hell will not prevail!
heaps of blessings on the Latham Family! Team Komboa loves you and has been
blessed by you and your passion for the Lord!
