Stupidstitions
Superstition is defined as a belief in a supernatural causality; that one event leads to the cause of another without any way of really linking the physical world to the events caused. The Latin word, derived from the verb “super-stare”, means to “stand upon“, “to stand on“, or to “survive“. It also can be interpreted as standing over something in amazement or awe.
So,my question is to you…How many things do you do because of superstition or because of “old-wise tales” or just because it has been “passed down” to you?
As we were painting the ministry house here in L’viv, I went to get more paint, and my teammates were on a ladder in the doorway. My first thought was…oh yeah, I shouldn’t walk under a ladder because of that superstition. Then I remembered the truth. God sends his angels concerning me and no curse or stupid belief that harmed someone many years ago is going to affect me. So I did it; I walked under the ladder. HAH. I’ve got Jesus so those superstitions don’t apply.
How many of you…will think twice about…
Crossing paths with a black cat? Walking under a ladder? Or will you knock on “wood” with hopes that what you said won’t come true? Believe in unlucky numbers such as 13? In L’viv I found out many believe if you sit on pavement that could prevent you from having children? Really? lol

In a Biblical sense, I found some information on this as well. Some people swear by altars or follow certain particular patterns in church which derived from superstition (even Christians). Matthew 23:16-22 I believe that Jesus is warning us to not just swear by gifts, or altars by to do things without realizing their meaning. Of course this could be interpreted many ways but this is one way…
“Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.’ You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred? You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gift on the altar is bound by that oath.’ You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? Therefore, anyone who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. And anyone who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it. And anyone who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the one who sits on it.”-Matthew 23:16-22 (NIV)
Ok, so maybe you never followed superstitions but what other things are you believing without thinking them through? Seek the truth. God is that truth…all those other things will not last & don’t impact us if we don’t let them. Don’t let yourself believe harm could come upon you; you are only entertaining destructive thoughts and opening the door for the enemy to come in. Speak truth over yourself; God’s word is truth.
