Glimpses of the Face of Jesus
Hospital Ministry
9/14/11
Busia, Uganda
This week our team got to visit a local African Hospital. We were invited to pray for many people who were sick including 2 sick babies, and a sick child. Here in Busia, Uganda I have seen more sicknesses than I have ever seen before in my life. So many cases of Maleria, Polio, Bacterial infections, general weaknesses, malnutrition, and all throughout Africa HIV invections are also common. I have noticed a common pattern in which many people want prayer but they don’t want to explain what is wrong. Either that or there is just a communication barrier. It starts to break you when you see so much sickness in one area. Especially when there are so many sick young babies. I see the love of Christ in those who are weak and sick. God is very near and dear to the broken-hearted…
Last week a few members of our team got to go out for some door to door ministry. This soon turned into praying healing for baby, after baby, after another baby. To see those mothers holding their precious children who were sick brought out intense compassion and it took humility for those families to ask for prayer. Some of which, this prayer, may have been thier only answer. A lot of families here don’t have enough money for medication, or enough money to make it to a hospital. I will not know if each one of the babies we prayed for was healed, but I do know that the Lord asks us to pray without ceasing. I trust that if God wanted to heal those babies, he did.
There was a Muslim man asking for prayer from our team for healing. I was intrigued that a man who didn’t know Jesus was asking for prayer from other Christians. Upon approaching his house, there was a strong presence of darkness that I felt. So strongly, that I needed to pray from outside of his home with another teammate. He did not accept Jesus that day, but he was in pain from his sickness. He was at a place of desparation and his last hope was that if there was a savior who healed, he desparately needed to embrace the Lord’s mercy and grace. This same man was at the Hospital we visited on Thursday. This time heaven rejoiced because he is now a Christian! Our team stepped in and prayed with him…
Hospital ministry was awesome as well, because even if each and every person’s sickness wasn’t healed, God did bring his Holy Spirit to the hospital in Busia this week. He brought light, life, restoration, compassion, and the Kingdom of Heaven had victory! The air was filled with a peace which surpasses all understanding. The love of Jesus is embracing Busia, Uganda…and this fight for victory is not over.
