I have officially been living in Santo Domingo Xenacoj in Guatemala for a little over two weeks now! It seems impossible that its only been two weeks, I think all of us here agree it feels like months already! My team and 2 other teams are living with our phenomenal host, German, and his family. They have already blessed us so much! His wife, Susie, cooks us authentic Guatemalan food for every meal, they have taught us to hand wash our laundry, make sure we always have coffee in the mornings, and ultimately have shown us Jesus through their joy and service. German has one of the biggest hearts I have ever seen, and is passionate about serving the community and bringing the Word of God to everyone. In the short time that we’ve been here we have:
- visited a neighboring village twice to spend time with the school children and watch their performances
- put on three church services and provided food for orphans and widows in Xenacoj
- spent hours upon hours taking Spanish lessons
- played soccer in the town square with local kids
- attended a local fiesta where us “gringos” (white people) made fools out of ourselves dancing in front of all the locals
- experienced taking the bus to Antigua (much crazier than it sounds)
- gone door to door giving the Mayan locals their first Bibles translated in their native language
- worked in a wheelchair factory for handicapped children who can’t afford them
The Lord is so present here. He is evident in every person on my team, in every smile of an orphan and laugh of a widow. He is working in each of our lives, and has revealed himself beautifully to me and other people on my team already throughout these first two weeks.
Please continue praying for my team, German, and the ministry we are doing here!
