“Summer, its not like because me and Anna broke up I’m now choosing you because for me Summer, it has always been you.”

I used to be OBSESSED with the OC.  In high school my best friends and I would spend nights watching the show, listening to the soundtracks and getting our fashion trends from Summer and Marissa.  I’m currently re-living my high school years by watching the show with my teammate Jenni.  One of my favorite episodes is in the first season when Seth and Summer finally get together.  I love it so much because for one, I’m a sucker for cheesy love stories and two, Seth finally gets to be with the girl he’s been in love with since he was a child.  Can you say ultimate love story!  I mean he named his boat after the girl.  Summer didn’t want anything to do with him because she hung out with the popular kids and Seth was a loner who likes comic books and sailing.  So from a distance they grew up together but it took her some convincing to decide he was worth being with.

But regardless of how dramatic or cheesy the love story of Seth and Summer is, I have learned a very valuable lesson about God’s love from Seth’s pursuit of Summer.  Actually, thinking about it, it is more than a lesson.  It is like an epiphany and has changed the way I understand the way God loves and how powerful it is.

Our squad is focusing on intimacy with the Father and our team decided to spend our time discovering more about God’s love.  We read Isaiah 43 that says,

“For I am the Lord your God, the Holy one of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.  Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I LOVE YOU, I will give men in exchange for your life.”

When I read this, it hit me that God LOVES me… Like really loves me… Like wants to win me over and always has.

So here is what that means:

I’m not Gods second choice.

I’m not His last resort.

He wanted me all along and he will do anything to get me.

He didn’t just name His boat after me, He created me and He knows the number of hairs on my head.

Nothing can separate me from Him.

Although I have felt second best, unworthy and have not been fought for in my past, God believes this about me.  And you too!  Do you believe that?  I challenge you to step into the freedom God’s love gives you because I promise it is worth it.  You are worth it!  Knowing you are worth pursuing, that you are first best in God’s eyes changes everything!

O and the best thing about Gods love is that it won’t sail away to Portland when things get hard.  Yes, even Seth Cohen is less than perfect.
