Another big question that’s been asked, “What are my expectations for this trip?” Well I’ll tell you.

I’m expecting to be slapped in the face by Jesus… everyday… hard. Does that answer the question for you?

If not, let me elaborate:

I want to be so completely wrecked by the Holy Spirit day to day. So much so, that there would be no possible way to return from such a trip unchanged and unmoved. I don’t want my life to be the same after this. I mean really though, how could it be??

Now my analogies might be a little over the top for you, so let me break it down a little differently: I want Jesus to take my life, vigorously shake it up, break and destroy everything inside, and then proceed to go all Harry-Potter-magic-wand on me and piece me back together making me new. I expect to never be the same after this trip because of the things I’ll see and do that will allow my heart to break the same way God’s does in utter compassion.

I recently went to a retreat where Nik Ripken (the author of The Insanity of God and The Insanity of Obedience) spoke. I can’t even tell you how impactful his talks were, because there just aren’t words sufficient enough to describe all he has seen and done with the nations. After listening to him talk all week, I realized that I really haven’t been that obedient to God. Sure, I obeyed him by signing up for this trip, but strictly speaking day to day, I’m a pretty disobedient child. We not only have the freedom as Americans to worship, but we have to freedom to witnessTo be “fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).

So what else do I expect? I expect to become a full-blown fisherman and witness to people like I’ve never witnessed before … not just on this excursion, but between now and launch, and for the rest of my life. We weren’t just called to spread the gospel; we were commanded to.
