We took a ship from Manila to Bacolod Island. First off I’ve never been on a ship before, and second I am terrified of the ocean. So needless to say I wasn’t very excited about it-but it’s really a lose lose situation for me, because I am also terrified of flying. Moving on- So we get on the ship about 11am, Monday morning. I slept for several hours after taking my motion sickness medication. After I woke up I ventured out onto the back of the boat to see how the scenery was, and to see how much I could face my fears. Nearing the edge of the boat my heart leapt, not with fear but in great amazement of God’s creation. There were the most beautiful islands surrounded by beautiful blue water. I felt so small standing on the back of the ship looking out into endless water and sky.

Later in the evening around 7:30, one of the ship crew members made an announcement saying that there is a tropical storm right in our path, and we need to move closer to land and drop anchor until it’s safe to move on. I could feel my fears resurfacing in the pit of my stomach. All I could think of was anything related to ship wrecks or being lost in the middle of the ocean. I went to my room to sleep away my distress, and 7 hours later I wake up to the sound of the anchor being lifted. I got up to look outside and check out the weather situation. The water was pretty choppy and the ship was rocking back and forth. It was 4am and I wasn’t able to go back to sleep, so I stayed out on the deck and waited for daylight. It was actually a quite pleasent morning-eventhough I didn’t get to see the sunrise because of the cloud coverage.

At this point we were about 7 hours behind schedule. So what was supposed to be a 23 hour trip, turned into being a 30 hour trip. I survived my first treck across the ocean. It’s actually a history marker for the World Race, because we are the first team to actually travel long distance on water. AND funnily enough we get to do it again in 3 weeks!! Praise the Lord…
