Training camp was an amazing week where God grew and stretched my heart! Here is five things I learned at training camp!

 1. Being vulnerable is worth it

During training camp we where encouraged to be real and raw with each other. I had known these people for less than 48 hours and we where sharing our deepest hurts, our stories, fears, and insecurities. As soon as we began to let down these walls our team became closer and closer…we are pretty much family now.

 2. I can do nothing more or nothing less for God to love me

This was a common theme through out training camp that God kept reminding me of. I have always been someone who loves to serve others and check things off my to do list. I was that student in college who studied for days and had my homework done a week ahead of time. I can get caught up in everything that I need to get done. This week was a great reminder that I need to slow down and just bask in the presence of God because He loves me more than I can ever imagine.

 3. Bucket showers are so refreshing!

As soon as I stepped out of my tent I began to sweat by just standing there because it was so humid! There is nothing I could do about, but embrace the fact that you are going to be sweaty and smelly the rest of the day. At the end of the day when I filled my 5 gallon bucket with icy cold water I was so excited! Having a bucket shower was like a little piece of Heaven. After your shower you feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the world! It is something you just can’t explain, but have to experience for yourself!

4. Change can bring your squad closer together.

During training camp we experienced a lot of adversity which could have torn our team apart, but we stayed positive and it only brought us closer together.  Three of my squad mates and one of my leaders from my squad had to go home early because God had other plans for this season of their life. It was so hard to see them go, but God’s plan it so much greater than our own.  Out route even changed and all we could simply do was embrace this change.

 The new route is..

Panama (new country)

Costa Rica

Nicaragua

Honduras

Malaysia (new country)

Thailand

Laos

Cambodia

Swaziland

Botswana

South Africa

I am excited to see what God has in store with all these changes. Although change can be difficult my squad is going to be facing many different changes on the field. All the changes we experienced during training camp are a way God is preparing our hearts for the field. I couldn’t be more excited!

5. Feedback is awesome!

At the end of each day my team and I of 5 others girls will give each other feedback on things we did great and things that need improvement. When I first heard we where going to be giving feedback I was a little scared. My team and I had our first day of feed back on the last day of camp, and it wasn’t scary at all. It was a time of encouragement and helping each other step out of our comfort zone to become more like the image of Christ. I am so excited to be doing life with the 5 girls in this picture! I love them already!
