My cousin, Sami Jo, turns 27 tomorrow so this weekend got designated her “birthday weekend”. And yes I mean the whole weekend. Actually it’s safe to say we will celebrate for the remainder of the month. Friday night was our prep night. We cooked everything from mac and cheese, potato salad, and collard greens to the salsa, guacamole, and the cake. We were busy slaving away all night but I was trying to enjoy that time. I knew it was the calm before the storm. Knowing our family, her BBQ was going to be wild and crazy.
I have to say the Arizona heat makes it a little too hot to have a BBQ this time of year but we made it work. The food was great and everyone was happy. I’m pretty sure I gained about 5 pounds just from yesterday alone. One day I will learn my limits when it comes to eating. After eating I looked around and realized how much joy surrounded me. I never really take the time to recognize how genuine and unconditional the love of my family is. It’s easy for me to overlook the beautiful love I receive on a daily basis. I guess it just turned into something I expected. I have been showered with love since the day I was born.
I am extremely thankful for all their support and love. I hope I continue to recognize and soak it up each and everyday of my life. I encourage you all to recognize the love that surrounds you. Each day lets focus on giving back a little more than we have received.
